How to block YouTube ads on Roku

Excessive YouTube ads can be really annoying. If you’re watching an entertaining video and then a commercial for shampoo or something else pops up out of nowhere, you’re not going to like it. And if it happens very often, then watching something won’t be so fascinating, because you will be waiting when that annoying ad appears.

If you’re a Roku device user, you already know all its benefits. It’s a good streaming device, however, it comes at a price. Unfortunately, when you have a Roku TV, you will notice that there are so many ads while watching something. There are ads on the home screen, there are commercial breaks if you’re watching TV channels, and of course, there are ads on YouTube.

People have switched to streaming from cable TV to avoid ads, among other things. However, ads have gotten to streaming services as well. Fortunately, you can turn off YouTube ads on your Roku device, the information below will explain how to do it.

What to do to turn off YouTube ads on Roku

Like any other streaming service, Roku makes a lot of money from ads, including ads from YouTube. Because of this, of course, there’s no need for the company to let you block ads. If they wanted to get rid of ads, they could have integrated a special feature inside your Roku device software. Unfortunately, there’s no such option.

In addition, the ad-blocking software doesn’t work on the Roku operating system. This means that you can’t just install an ad blocker and watch YouTube without a commercial break.

Probably the easiest way to get rid of YouTube ads is a YouTube Premium subscription. It allows you to watch any video on YouTube completely ad-free. The only exception is ads that have been inserted by the video’s author. However, this method won’t be suitable for everyone, because you have to pay a monthly subscription fee.

For this reason, you can try two less popular methods to get rid of YouTube ads on your Roku device. Let’s take a closer look at them.

How to limit the YouTube ads on Roku using settings

Oddly enough, it’s exactly in the settings you can find various solutions if you have any problems with your device. Roku has a built-in option with which you can reduce the number of targeted ads and keep your browsing history private.

  • First, you should click on the “Settings” option on your Roku home screen.
  • After that, you should choose “Privacy”, and click on the “Advertising” option.
  • Then you should make sure to tick the box next to “Limit Ad Tracking”.
  • To finish the process, you should restart your Roku device.

After you reboot your Roku device, you may have to enter the PIN code. In case you forget it, you will need to reset the PIN code on your Roku device.

This is a good step to start with. Surely, you will still have some ads, but there will definitely be fewer than before. You can still do more to block the ads.

How to block the YouTube ads on Roku using a router settings

There’s another solution to this problem. You can block some domains by using your router settings to disable targeted ads. This will remove some of the Roku ads. You have to be aware that for this method you need your PC, laptop, or mobile device to open a web browser. You can also use a web browser on your Roku device, but it will be easier to use it on your computer or smartphone.

Well, if you want to block the YouTube ads on your Roku device using your Wi-Fi router settings, you have to follow these steps:

  • First of all, open a web browser and go to your Wi-Fi router settings by entering “192.168.0.1” or “192.168.1.1” in your address bar. Keep in mind that the address may be different depending on the settings of your router or ISP.
  • After that, log in to your router using your credentials and go to the “Advanced” tab (the process may vary from router to router, but it’s nearly the same).
  • Next, you should tap on “Security, Access Control, or Filtering”. There you should select the option that lets you block websites, domain names, or keywords.
  • Then, you should add this link to the list:
  • Now, tap on the checkbox in order to block Enterprise Advertising and Analytics Solutions.
  • To finish the process, you should restart your Roku device.

When you click the Enterprise Advertising Solutions option, it will block ads on YouTube. The links you blocked should also prevent ads from appearing on your Roku device’s home screen.

Why are ads so unloved?

The attitude to ads in modern humans can be different. No one will reject it completely everywhere, because it’s ads that allow you to learn about a lot of useful and interesting things. However, commercials are perceived positively only in those moments when people want them and when they’re actually configured for their viewing.

When there’s neither the mood nor the time, and the ads prevent the rapid viewing of important videos, hardly anyone will appreciate it positively, most often advertising content and want to remove it as soon as possible.

Quite often parents are very annoyed by ads that want to run a cartoon baby, but its display is preceded by very non childish ads, such as liquor or cigarettes. For this reason, the number of people who want to get complete information on how to remove ads is constantly growing. Especially when ads, such as those on YouTube, don’t even want to skip.

Does installing AdGuard in a browser on Roku help?

As you may have read before, unfortunately, installing AdGuard in your browser on your Roku device won’t help get rid of ads on YouTube. The only option that allows you to completely get rid of ads is to buy a subscription to YouTube Premium. After all, subscribing to YouTube Premium gives you a huge number of benefits besides getting rid of ads.

Alternatively, if ads don’t bother you, then you can just skip them a while after they appear. Good thing YouTube still allows you to do that, so you can keep watching videos or listening to your favorite tracks by connecting your Bluetooth headphones to your Roku device.

  1. Is it really spelled “cloufservices.roku.com” or is that a misspelling? Like, should it be “cloudservices.roku-com”?
