The Nintendo Switch is a truly unique gaming console. It’s hard to compare it to other game consoles like the PS or Xbox because that’s like comparing a car to a train. It would seem that both are a means of transportation. However, every person has his or her own preferences. Some people like to travel by car, while others like to travel by train.
It is the same with game consoles. The Nintendo Switch is loved primarily for its portability, but also for a large number of exclusives and other games that have recently been released on this platform. Many of these games have a co-op mode. This means that you can play together with your friends or family members. You can play either on one device or by combining several devices into one network. In addition, you can play online (of course, if you have access to the Internet).
In case you are going to try cooperative mode on your Nintendo Switch, you have to wonder how many people can play on one device. So, here is what you should know about it using the Mario Kart game as an example.
How many people can play Nintendo Switch
Several people can play on one split-screen console. Up to eight people can play on their switches with wireless play. You can also play with up to twelve friends over the Internet in an online game.
The Switch controllers work a little differently than most consoles. Each Switch comes with a pair of Joy-Con controllers that can be used as one large controller for one person or as separate smaller controllers for two people. So, if you want to play with four people, you only need two pairs of Joy-Con Controllers.
How to play Nintendo Switch using split-screen mode
The easiest and cheapest way to play Mario Kart with friends is in local multiplayer. This mode requires only one Switch and one copy of Mario Kart (and controllers for everyone).
To use this mode, select “Multiplayer” from the main menu. Here you can choose how many people you want to play with – up to four players. Next, select your game mode. If you choose Grand Prix, you will need to select a difficulty level before moving on to the next stage.
You will see a screen where you can assign controllers to players. Press and hold the L and R (or SL and SR) buttons on your controller in the configuration you want to use. At the top of the screen, you will see three different configurations in which you can use your controllers. For example, if you want to use the left and right Joy-Con controllers separately, you must turn the controllers sideways and hold down the SL and SR buttons on each controller.
If you want to use both Joy-Cons to create a full-size controller, press L and R on the two halves of the Joy-Con on this screen. You can add up to four players using any combination of controllers. For example, if you have two pairs of Joy-Cons, each half can be a standalone controller, allowing four people to play.
How to connect controllers from other consoles to the Switch
At this point, you can easily connect controllers from other consoles to the switcher. To connect a Joy-Con controller to the Switch, hold the small round button along the flat edge of the controller until the green row of lights starts flashing. The Joy-Con controllers will also automatically connect to whatever Switch they are physically connected to. So, if you want to use the controllers between consoles, simply install them on the Switch.
Once you’ve connected and configured all your controllers, you can choose your characters, customize your cars, and choose a track to start the race as usual.
How to play with eight friends using Wireless Play
If you really want to get the most out of your Switch, choose Wireless Play mode. In this mode, up to eight players can use up to eight switches to play in the same room, each with its own (or shared) screen. Up to two players can play on the same Switch at the same time in split-screen mode, which means you only need four or at least four Switches to race up to eight people. Likewise, you can race with up to four participants with only two switches.
