How to turn off voice on Roku device

Owners of TCL TV or a Roku Player can have access to the audio guide, and this is very convenient. But sometimes people accidentally turn it on and because they are not used to this feature immediately want to get rid of it. Some people enjoy the audio guide, while others temporarily try to get rid of that feature that might have even been activated by default when first using Roku.

In this article, you will learn how to disable the audio guide on the Roku device. So, how do you turn the guide off? It’s a piece of cake actually – either by using the dedicated remote buttons or via the “Settings” menu. Let’s jump right in.

Turn off audio assistant using remote buttons

All Roku remotes have a certain key that is responsible for turning voice guidance on and off. You may have accidentally hit it while using a remote and now you hear an unwanted audio narration.

In order to make your Roku stop talking, you should hit the * button (star/options button) on your remote four times. Your Roku may take some time to respond to this command, so don’t worry if you keep hearing the narration for a few more seconds.

Well, if you’re used to the audio feature and like it, you can always easily revert back to the previous settings. Just do the same as before – press the * button on the remote four times and wait a few seconds for Roku to speak again.

Turn off audio assistant from the Settings Menu

Do not worry if you can not disable the audio guide through the remote control, sometimes the shortcut goes out of service. This is not a problem, because there is a way to change the situation through the Menu Settings, although it will take a little more time:

  • Tap the Home button on your Roku remote to access the Home screen
  • Select Settings from the list to the left of the screen
  • Go to the Accessibility menu from the following screen
  • Navigate to the Audio Guide under the section with the same name. It should appear on the right
  • Select Off to disable the option

Now the audio guide will disappear until you decide to turn it back on again.

How to disable the remote button shortcuts

In case you are always accidentally hitting the unnecessary buttons and getting irritated all the time you have a great option just to disable a shortcut option. To do this, you should navigate to the Accessibility menu again. Follow these steps:

  • Go to the Home screen of your Roku by hitting the “Home” button on your remote
  • Navigate to Settings to the left
  • Go to Accessibility
  • Navigate to Shortcut
  • Select Disabled

Now you can check the new settings by clicking the shortcuts a few times and if Roku does not respond then everything has gone well. And to return the audio guide just follow the same steps only select Enabled from the assistant section.
