The camera is one of the most important functions of a smartphone in today’s world. People use cameras on their devices all the time to capture important moments.
You can take an Instagram story or a funny snapshot of your friend, or you can simply capture something important in a video or photo.
That’s why manufacturers try to equip their products with cameras of maximum quality. Often the camera can be what sells the smartphone.
Not surprisingly, users often use it and some may have questions about its functionality. For example, how to remove the sound when capturing a photo on your iPhone.
How to switch off camera sound on iPhone
There are many cases when the sound of the camera embarrasses you. Fortunately, it’s quite easy to get rid of this function. To know more, keep on reading.
Is it possible to remove the sound of the photo in the iPhone
There is no special setting for removing the sound of the shutter when taking a picture, but there are a few tricks that you can use to mute the sound.
This can be very useful when you want to take a photo without anyone knowing about it or when you are taking a photo at night and don’t want to wake anyone up.
How to mute the photo shutter on your iPhone
In fact, although there is no official way to mute the camera shutter on your iPhone, you can do it using a few tricks.
For example, you can use the Live Photo feature to mute the sound. In this mode, there will be no photo shutter sound.
Live Photo is a special mode on your iPhone which allows you to record 1.5 seconds before and after the picture is taken. This picture is taken in the same way as a normal photo. Then you can view a short video that was taken of your photo, change the title photo, add a fun effect, edit the Live Photo shot, and share it with friends and family.
To make it you need :
- Open the Camera app
- And at the top of the screen make sure the icon with the repeating circles inside is yellow. If not, tap on it to activate Live Photo.
- Then just hold your device still for a few seconds
- And press the shutter button
This feature is usually enabled on iPhones by default. Remember that these photos take up a lot more space than normal photos.
Another way to remove the sound of the shutter is to put your phone into silent mode. To do this, you just need to toggle a special switch on the left side of your phone.
It is located above the volume button. When you toggle it, your phone will vibrate and you will be notified that silent mode is on. While it is on, all system sounds will be muted.
How to enable the Live Photo function by default
Usually, on iPhones, this function should be activated right from the start, but if for some reason it has been disabled and when you start the Camera app you take normal pictures, you can easily activate it. To do this you only need to :
- Go to the Settings menu
- Click on “Camera” > “Preserve Settings“
- Make sure the switch next to Live Photo is on
It’s pretty easy to do and will only take you a few minutes. Note that Live Photo is available on iPhones 6s or later, also on iPads 5th generation or later, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad mini 5th generation and later, and iPad Pro.
What other ways to take photos
You can also download a third-party application and take photos on it. For example, you can use the Instagram app for this purpose. To take a normal photo and save it to your gallery, you will need to :
- Open the Instagram app
- Swipe to the right
- You’ll be in photo mode, where you can capture stories
- To take a photo, click the big white button at the bottom
- Then click the three horizontal dots at the top right to save the photo
- Here you will be given the option “Save” Click on it and the photo will be sent to your gallery
This is a very easy and fast alternative to the classic camera app on your iPhone.
What you should know about the restrictions
In some countries, especially Japan and South Korea, the camera shutter sound stays on all the time. Shutter muting is forbidden, and phones purchased and traded there are adjusted for those markets to insure complete privacy and block unknown recording or photographing.
Producers and Japanese wireless providers have designed phones that produce a specific sound every time you open or use the camera. It is important to know that even if you visit those countries, your phone will produce this sound each time when your camera app would be opened, even if you mute your iPhone camera. If you want to partly avoid this, you can use those methods:
- Quiet the sound by cladding the speaker as you shoot.
- Put headphones into the headphone jack and make photos via your headphone as a shutter.
- Use a third-party camera app but not your iPhone’s default Camera app.
- Use the Volume buttons on your iPhone as shutter buttons.
If you make pictures legally and not intruding on anyone’s privacy in those countries, it would be a good idea to use those solutions.
