How to make your phone number private

Nowadays, the need for anonymity and privacy of personal data is increasing daily. We want and hope that our personal data will not leak into the network, will not be used by intruders for their own benefit, etc.

The same goes for anonymity in phone calls. For example, you call someone you don’t know and you don’t want that person to see your phone number for some reason. It could be your business number, or on the contrary, your home or private number that you don’t want to make known. Or you just want to prank your friends or family by making some harmless joke by posing as the president.

No matter what the reason, there are several ways you can hide your phone number. In this article, we are going to tell you how to do it.

How to hide your phone number on any phone

This method works on any type of phone, including Android, iOS/iPhone, and even landlines in the United States. To make your phone number private and hidden on the receiver’s display, you have to use a special code.

If you want to make your phone number private, you have to follow these steps:

This method works on any type of phone, including Android, iOS/iPhone, and even landlines in the United States. To make your phone number private and hidden on the receiver’s display, you have to use a special code.

If you want to make your phone number private, you have to follow these steps:

  • Dial “*67” and then the destination phone number. It is a good idea to check this with a friend. If his number is “555-6666”, you need to dial “*675556666”;
  • Look at your friend’s device screen to see if your caller ID number is displayed. It should appear as “Unknown”, “N/A” or “Private” on the screen;
  • For long distance calls, you must add “1” and the appropriate area code after “67”. For example, if their number is “555-6666”, you should dial “*6716175556666” (“617” is the Massachusetts area code).

How to make your number private with help of phone service provider

As an option, you can also ask your phone service provider to make your number confidential. All major service providers offer this option, including Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T. You can either call them and ask them to help you or find information on their official websites.

Generally, carriers don’t charge a fee to make your number private. You can even enable this feature on a permanent basis. You can also activate this option if you dial “611”. After that, you won’t have to use the code “*67” before dialing the number.

Once you have managed to turn this feature on, you can turn it off for a short time, for example, when calling your family or friends. Just enter “*82” before the number you are dialing so that your number appears on the screen.

How to make your iPhone number private

The iPhone has a built-in ability to hide your phone number. If you want to make your number private on iPhone, you have to follow these steps:

  • Open “Settings”;
  • Scroll down, select “Phone” and “Show My Caller ID”;
  • Move the slider to the left to hide your Calling ID.

Once you have completed the steps above, your phone number will be private by default. Nevertheless, Verizon users do not have this option, so keep this in mind. You can enter the code “*82” to temporarily show the caller ID. Alternatively, you can follow the same steps to re-enable the “Show Caller ID” feature and unhide the number.

How to make your Android phone number private

Android devices also offer the option to make your phone number private, at least the latest models of most brands. If you want to make your Android phone number confidential, you have to follow these steps:

  • Open “Settings”;
  • Select “More Settings” or “Additional Settings”;
  • Tap “Caller ID”;
  • Toggle “Hide Number”.

If you want to make your phone number public again, follow the same steps as in the previous point and then disable the “Hide Number” option. You can also enter the code “*82” to quickly show the caller ID if the person you’re calling doesn’t pick up.
