Does TikTok notify screenshots?

Have you ever taken a screenshot of a video or a message and got a cold sweat on your forehead because you think the user got a notification that you took a screenshot? Do such notifications work with TikTok? I think the answer will calm you down.

TikTok doesn’t notify users that you took a screenshot of their content or posts. However, there are still ways for other people to know if you’ve viewed their posts. Let’s take a closer look at how this all works.

Does TikTok notify you when someone screenshots or records your video

As I wrote above, there is no notification that you took a screenshot or recorded another user’s TikTok screen. Likewise, you won’t get a notification if someone takes a screenshot of your video. It would be best if you kept this in mind when you posted your video. Remember that any viewer can record it at any time.

Also, TikTok’s policy means that the video’s author can’t see that you’ve viewed it. The author will only be able to see the total number of viewers. However, there are exceptions.

If you subscribe to a person and they subscribe back to you, you can enable it in the settings under Privacy > Post views. That way, you can allow the people you follow to see your activity under their posts and see if they have viewed your post. View information will only be available for seven days after a published post.

Does TikTok notify messages screenshots?

Another important question (I think even more important) is whether TikTok notifies you of screenshots of your posts. The answer to this is also no. You can take screenshots of other people’s messages and remain unnoticed, but remember that other users will also be able to take screenshots of your messages.

However, in TikTok, there are notifications about reading messages. That is, you will receive a notification that the other user has read the message you sent, and in the same way, the other person will receive a notification that you have seen the message.

I wouldn’t advise you to screenshot messages anyway, as it’s considered bad manners, at the very least. Besides, if the person you’re talking to finds out about it, they might get offended or take the news badly. If you do not want to quarrel with this person, it will be better to refrain from taking screenshots.

How to prevent users from screenshotting your TikTok videos

There is no official way to stop users from taking screenshots or recording your videos and messages, but you can use a little tipster. You can make your account private, and users will need your permission to see your messages. This way, you consent to subscribe only to people you trust and who won’t make screenshots of your private information. To do that, you will have to:

  • On your account page, click the burger button in the upper right corner.
  • In the drop-down menu, select Settings and Privacy.
  • Select Privacy.
  • In this tab, you need to turn on the Private Account option.

Then, to subscribe to you and view the content you post, users will send you requests that you manually approve. Of course, this is not the best way because then the subscribers will not be able to see your videos and be unable to promote themselves properly.

How to hide read status on TikTok messages

If you explore the Privacy tab in more detail, you can find many options there to help you make your TikTok experience more private. For example, I’ve already described how to read notifications, but I didn’t mention that you can turn these notifications off.

To disable read notifications, you need to go to the Privacy > Direct Messages tab and disable the Read status option here. When you do so, your conversation partner will no longer receive notification that you have read your messages.

This is a handy feature if you don’t want your conversation partner to know whether you’ve seen their messages or not. Then you can always say that you didn’t know the message you sent. Although on the other hand, if your chatmates see that you have this feature enabled, they may think that you don’t trust them.
