How to disable G-Sync explained

Most of the games today have a variety of online and competitive elements. This means that you can play these games with or against your friends.

For many people, the social aspect of games is incredibly important. People don’t just play the game, they communicate, overcome challenges together, compete and prove who’s the best. It’s a lot of fun and entertaining.

Of course, in order for you to get the most out of the game, you have to be comfortable playing it. To do this, developers are trying to optimize their games and make them as comfortable frame rates and nice graphics.

If you’re a player on the PC, the frame rate issues may worry you quite a lot. Since sometimes there may be different errors and bugs that affect the FPS or make your picture is interrupted.

To fix such problems developers are constantly updating the software for their devices and releasing some handy programs that help make the picture more stable and smooth. For example, one such program is G-Sync from Nvidia.

What is G-Sync

G-Sync is Nvidia’s hardware synchronization technology. It solves the problem of screen tearing and synchronizes the refresh rate of the monitor with the frames the GPU outputs every second.

Since your GPU is producing a certain number of frames per second, they combine to make the screen move as smoothly as possible. Similarly, every second you monitor clears the previous image for new frames which are rendered by your GPU.

In order for everything to work correctly, the GPU saves upcoming files in a buffer, and if your monitor’s refresh rate and buffer are out of sync, it can result in a nasty line of two frames stitched together.

This is the problem that G-Sync technology eliminates. It comes in the form of a board that is built into your monitor. Normally this feature will be enabled by default.

How to disable G-Sync

Usually, this function helps you to have a smoother and more stable screen, but sometimes it can also cause issues such as stuttering, lags, and motion blur for gamers with weaker or older graphics cards.

If this is the case, you may need information on how to disable this function on your monitor. Since this feature is only compatible with Nvidia hardware, you can disable it using Nvidia software.

To do this is quite simple, you need to:

  • Rightclick on your desktop and select “Nvidia Control Panel” from the menu.
  • Then next to Display click on +.
  • Next, select Configure G-SYNC.
  • This is where you need to uncheck the box next to Enable G-SYNC.

Done, you have disabled the G-SYNC feature. As you can see it literally takes a few seconds. However, after that, you should still make sure that G-Sync is really turned off. This is quite easy to do.

How to verify that you have disabled G-Sync

In order to make sure that G-Sync isn’t running in the background while you’re playing games you can use these simple instructions:

  • Click on Display on the menu bar of the Nvidia Control Panel.
  • Then select Show indicator for G-Sync.
  • You should see an indicator light which tells you whether or not G-Sync is currently running.
  • If it’s still on try again all the steps from the previous tutorial.

This way you can check if you have G-Sync disabled and disable it again if needed.
