Twitter is a great place to find people of interest, read the news, and participate in so-called “threads” – in other words, mini forums. You can also be mentioned on Twitter, which means a person can write a tweet on their own, but it will contain your name with a link to your profile. In addition, you will be notified when you’re mentioned in a specific context.
And if the topic interests you and you want to communicate, this is a great way to notify and engage other people in conversation, but sometimes you don’t want to continue the discussion and you have encountered bullies on social networks. This is normal, in which case Twitter gives you the right to use two radical methods.
However, what if you don’t want to block a user or report a tweet? Just below you can find the answer to this question and find out how to deal with unwanted mentions on Twitter.
Is it possible to remove Twitter mentions
If you have an unpleasant dialogue with another person on Twitter or you simply want to remain anonymous, but they started mentioning you in their tweets, you cannot delete their tweets of course, just like you cannot remove a link to your profile specifically (i.e. a mention). However, first, try to reach an agreement with this person so that they don’t mention you anymore, and if everything goes well, you will not have to resort to radical measures.
Don’t get upset if they don’t listen to you, there are a couple of methods below that will help you so the person won’t be able to mention you anymore. To do so, you can either block the sender or report the Tweet.
How to block the sender
So, you’ve either had a conflict on Twitter, or you’ve just started getting spam in your address. If an account that has started to mention you very often is of absolutely no interest to you, it’s time to block it.
You will no longer see content from that account or anything related to it. This also works in the opposite direction: the person you have blocked will not be able to read your profile, see your interactions with others or interact with you in any other form.
- Open your Twitter app
- Tap the Bell icon at the bottom of the screen
- Select the Mentions tab at the top of the screen
- Locate the mention you’d like to remove from your list and tap the three dots icon next to the sender’s name
- Tap the Block @username option
- A pop-up notification will appear. Confirm your action by choosing the Block button
Once you do this, all their Tweets will immediately disappear from your Twitter feed.
How to report tweets or user
Well, the most radical way would be to naturally welcome the tweet and the account as a whole. This is only if you’re constantly being spammed if the account is disturbing you or threatening you or others. In that case, you should definitely notify Twitter about such people and send a report. Also, by sending a report you can also block the profile. Here’s how to do it:
- First, tap the Bell icon in your Twitter app
- Go to the Mentions tab and locate the Tweet you want to report
- Touch the three dots icon next to the sender’s name
- Tap Report Tweet
- Now select one of the reasons why you want to report this. There are five options for you to choose
- Follow the instructions for the chosen option above
- Select Done and the reporting process is complete
And even if you don’t want to block a user, but you’re often distracted by notifications, you can also customize your Twitter alerts so that Twitter only notifies you about the specific things you’re interested in.
Twitter is primarily a social network, and it’s quite a common thing to run into unpleasant people or even entire groups, so Twitter has provided for such a scenario and you can filter people at any time, even make your account private, and make the space as comfortable as possible. Take care of yourself and stay safe!
